Individual carbon emissions database

A database of individuals’ carbon emissions reported on an annual basis and any contributions towards reducing carbon emissions (for example on offsets or other environmental projects).

  • First idea is that government could require annual reporting.

  • Alternatively, a private organisation could offer individuals the chance to self-report.

  • A private organisation could also seek to develop a global database. For example, a company in the UK could seek to develop a database about all individuals living in Abuja and Lagos.

Before an individual chooses to report their own level, a best estimate could be provided, for example based on the electoral register. Individuals could then report to correct these estimtaes.

Individuals who meet certain criteria, for example four-times offsetting their lifetime emissions with reputable providers, could be given special cards which give certain privileges, special club access or discounts. Some special exhibitions and parks could be only open to individuals meeting certain criteria.

Campaign for individuals to meet certain responsibility criteria by badges on social media including Linkedin.

A push for immigration or legal advantages in certain jurisdictions for responsible behaviour.
